he drew the dawn into himself

he drew the dawn into himself
gifted a smile               fine horse chest
in his stare       a reminder
that even though his innocence
taken depth by             sleeping giant
he knows this life is beautiful
it’s the pain     he comes from
makes me love             him more
he drew the dawn into himself
spreading lungs length            humming bird
invoking the dawn from others
I only knew     him whirling during
cold stale nights           soaking prayer sticks
interested in the medicine of
my laughing song        and thighs
he knows the ashes of my tears
and builds softly          fire rubbing gently
subtle groans deep                   reaching pulling
invoking the dawn from me
a patient cured             seen no more by men
